This course search application will help you find the CRNs for all distance education courses. Additionally, you can register for any Open Entry courses you wish to take as those cannot be done in Banner. However, most courses must be registered in banner. Through course search you can save these courses in a queue, and email yourself that list for easy registration later. Let's walk through some of the features.
Searching is easy. If you know the course you want to take by subject or name, type it in. You can try things like ENGL 1010, to see all ENGL 1010 courses or just type in ENGL to see all courses that start with ENGL. If you know the name of ENGL 1010, (It's Intro to Writing by the way) you can search by the title as well. Only know part of the title, try typing just writing.
Do you like a particular instructor. Try searching their first OR last name and see all of their courses in a particular term. You can also type in the abbreviation for the depth or breadth requirements you need and see all the courses that meet those requirements. For example, Quantitative Literacy is abbreviated QL on courses, so searching QL will bring up all Quantitative Literacy courses. You could also search Quantitative Literacy, but try typing that 5 times fast.
Searching all courses isn't always helpful, and for that, we have search filters. Clicking the search filters button will slide out a menu on the left where you can filter your search results by campus, semester, delivery, duration, requirement, and day of the week. This allows you greater flexibility in finding just the course you want. Want to see all Quantitative Intensive courses in Tooele on Tuesday or Thursday, now you can.
Clicking on any course will bring up specific details about that course like: which campuses it's offered at, the instructor, textbooks, syllabus, and current enrollment numbers. If this looks like a course you want to register for, simply click the save button next to the campus you wish to attend. You can review your saved courses later when registering in Banner.
Saved courses appear in green in the search results. After you save one or more courses, click the saved button at the top right corner of the screen. Here you can see a summary of your saved courses and their CRNs. You can email the courses to yourself for reference later during registration or an advising appointment.
If you save an open entry course, you will see a registration button in the saved courses menu. Click the button and follow the on screen instructions to submit a registration request for all of your saved open entry courses. Banner will not allow you to register for Open Entry courses, they must be done in course search.
